Possessivos: Nós dizemos: “a friend of mine/yours/his/hers/ours/theirs”:

A friend of mine is going to give a party tomorrow.

A neighbour of hers is going to have dinner with us on Monday.

Nós usamos my/your/his/her/its/our/they antes de own:

My own appartment his own car our own place

(meu próprio apartamento/o carro dele/ nosso próprio lugar)

‘On my own’ = by myself, ou seja, sozinho, comigo mesmo:

on my/your/his/her/its/our/their own = by

I like driving on my own/by myself.

Reflexivos: Os pronomes reflexivos são:

Singular: myself yourself himself/herself/itself

Plural: ourselves yourselves themselves

She enjoyed herself very much yesterday.

I cut myself this afternoon.

‘Who helped you to do this?’ ‘Nobody! I did it myself!’

There... e it...

Nós usamos ‘there...’ para dizer que algo existe:

There´s a party tomorrow.

There was a river behind those trees when I was a kid.

There has been lots of strikes since 1981.

Mas ‘there’ também pode significar ‘em/para/em algum lugar’:

Tom´s house is very nice. I went there yesterday.

Nós usamos “it” para indicar algo ou algum lugar em particular:

I went to the new store yesterday. It´s a very nice place.(o restaurante)

Ou em situações como esta:

It´s dangerous to play with fire. (it = to play with fire)

It´s a long way from my house to yours. (distância)

It was sunny. (tempo)

Some e any

Geralmente, nós usamos “some” (ou somebody, someone, something) em frases afirmativas, e “any” (ou

anybody, anything, anyone) em frases negativas:

Some Any

I bought some candies. I didn´t buy any candy.

There´s somebody/someone there. There isn´t anybody there.

I´m thirsty. I want something to drink. I´m not thirsty. I don´t want anything to drink.

Nós também usamos any:

Depois de “if”: If there´s something wrong, tell me!

Com a idéia de “não importa...”: Come any time you want!(‘Venha à qualquer hora! Eu não me importo!’)

*someone/somebody/anyone/anybody são palavras singulares:

There is someone here!

No/nothing/nobody são palavras negativas, mas devem ser usadas em frases afirmativas:

I have nothing. Ou I don´t have anything.

I´m nobody. Ou I´m not anybody.
